New Cargo Shorts pattern - Wardrobe By Me

New Cargo Shorts pattern

We are loving the Cargo Shorts sewing pattern so much. The design is packed with rugged details and spot on masculine proportions. Big side pockets, deep front pockets, back welt pockets and front fly with zipper. The back has darts and the waistline is faced and has belt loops. The Top stitching ads the perfect finishing touch!

Many sewers are willing to do just about anything to avoid installing a zipper, but frankly, it really isn't that hard. Like any other technique, it takes a little practice to get it just right. The instructions include step by step illustrations for the zipper, but we have also made a blog post with the same instructions illustrated with pictures.

If you want to practice the technique, we have created a video on Youtube

Aside from a front fly zipper, this is a pattern that has three different pockets. A classic front slanted pocket, a pleated workwear inspired side pocket and a classic back welt pocket. What better way to brush up on some skills while making him some shorts he is sure to love?

To give the shorts a rugged look we have added a workwear-inspired back reinforcement panel. This feature gives the design an edge! If he isn't a fan, make them without. The pattern includes a plain version without side pockets and back reinforcement.

Here is what the testers are saying:

Learned a new skill

I’ve never done a welt pocket before but the instructions were clear and they turned out so professional looking. It’s a lot of cutting but it really is worth it and the project came together quickly. He loves the fit!

Great fit

My experience working with men's shorts patterns from the major pattern companies has always been that they are very ill-fitting and require a lot of adjustments to make something wearable. I was so surprised when these fit great just as is. I'd been looking for a good shorts pattern, and I found it. The technical writing seems clear, concise and thoroughly illustrated. (although I was familiar with the techniques before hand.) I was initially hesitant to include the back reinforcements, because it's not something that I've ever really seen before; I'm glad that I did, because it looks really cool, aside from being functional.

Gorgeous details!

Very well drafted and careful descriptions. As an adventurous beginner, I was able to plug right through the steps and have a beautiful pair of cargo shorts. Plan on making several more!

Awesome

This pattern is awesome! My hubbie is so happy with his cargo's!

I really enjoyed making these for my husband. The welt pockets were something I’d never done before but they came out really well. The fit is really nice, I just need to take in the seat a bit. Hubby has asked for more and I’m looking forward to sewing them up.

It has been my second experience with pants. The first pattern of another brand that I sewed was not zippered and needed adjustments everywhere, as I do not have enough level to make them, my husband does not use them. On the other hand this pattern fits perfectly, the instructions are clear with photographs that facilitate the process, so I have been able to sew a wonderful and perfect zipper, and several types of pockets for the first time. I am really delighted and convinced that I will sew many more.
