Choose Size based on body measurements

To achieve the best fit possible with our sewing patterns, it’s crucial to choose your size based on your body measurements.

We are committed to helping you find the perfect fit. This means selecting your size based on actual body measurements, rather than comparing them to store-bought clothing sizes.

Understanding Our Sizing  Choose Your Size

Our sizes are based on standard European measurements, which may differ from the sizing you’re used to in ready-to-wear clothing. You cannot directly compare our pattern sizes to the size labels on retail clothing. Instead, we recommend taking your body measurements and using them to determine the correct pattern size.

Taking Your Measurements Choose Your Size

For the most accurate fit, you’ll need to take three key measurements: Chest, Waist, and Hip. Here’s how:

  • Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest/bust, keeping the tape measure horizontal and snug but not too tight. Ensure the tape measure is level all the way around your body.
  • Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, typically just above your belly button. Keep the tape snug but comfortable, allowing you to breathe naturally.
  • Hip: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, usually about 7-9 inches (18-23 cm) below your waist. Keep the tape measure horizontal and ensure it’s level around your body.

Choose Your Size Based on Body Measurements

Once you have your measurements, refer to our size chart to determine the best fit. Our patterns are designed to accommodate a range of sizes, and your measurements may span different sizes. If so, choose the size that corresponds to the largest of your measurements (Chest, Waist, or Hip). You can always adjust the pattern as needed for a perfect fit.

Example:

  • If your Chest is 36 inches (92 cm), Waist is 28 inches (72 cm), and Hip is 40 inches (102 cm), select the size that best fits your Chest measurement (Size 8/38). Blend the pattern pieces to Size 10/40 at the Hips, and to Size 6/36 at the Waist.

Why Standard European Measurements? Choose Your Size

Our patterns use standard European measurements to ensure a consistent fit that suits a wide range of body types. This method provides a more accurate base for creating garments that fit well and look great, no matter your shape or size.

Tip: It’s always best to choose your size based on your body measurements and make any necessary adjustments to the pattern, rather than relying on size labels from store-bought clothing.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the correct size based on your body measurements is the key to creating garments that fit beautifully and feel comfortable. Take the time to measure yourself accurately, and don’t hesitate to make small adjustments to the pattern if needed. By doing so, you’ll ensure that your finished garment is a true reflection of your personal style and craftsmanship.

Below are the body measurements that align with the sizing standards of Wardrobe By Me. Choose Your Size

  • Each sewing pattern comes with a detailed chart outlining the corresponding body measurements and fabric requirements. You can easily find these specific measurement charts by browsing through the images associated with each pattern. We provide charts in both Metric and Imperial units, as well as finished garment measurements.
  • The finished garment measurements give you an indication of how the garment is intended to fit, showing the amount of ease included in the pattern. This helps you understand the overall fit and silhouette of the finished piece.
  • Please note that our sewing patterns are based on European standard measurements, which may differ from American sizing. For the best results, always select your size based on your actual body measurements rather than relying on store-bought clothing sizes.
