The welt pocket, it really isn't that hard to sew!

A welt pocket adds finish and finesse to almost any woven garment, but if you have never tried sewing one before, the task may seem daunting.

Here is a step by step explanation of the process. You can stop by Wardrobe By Me pattern support group on Facebook, and download the pattern pieces needed to create a beautiful welt pocket.

Iron interfacing to the wrong side of the garment, where you want to add a welt pocket.
Transfer the shape of the pocket opening to the wrong side of welt and place on top of the garment RSF.

Sew around the pocket opening.

Cut down the middle of the welt, all the way to the end and into the corners. 

Fold the welt, by turning the fabric around the opening like binding. Here is how it looks from the outside as well as the backside.

Iron the welt and baste in the ditch.

Sew welt pocket facing to welt pocket lining in both ends of the lining. Here the facing is cut in alternative fabric, to better illustrate, but the facing should be cut in main fabric. (this pieces is now called pocket)

Sew the pocket to the bottom edge of the welt. Iron the seam allowance down towards the lining.

 
Topstitch the welt in the ditch from the outside.

Sew the other pocket edge to the top of welt. Iron the welt and the pocket.

Topstitch the welt in the ditch from the outside.

Sew both side seams of the pocket together.

    
Sew from the outside the corners of the welt. Stitch in the ditch through all layers.
