Such a Cute Vest!

This was my first time sewing a lined garment and this was a perfect pattern to start with! Easy to follow, clearly written, helpful video (when I couldn’t wrap my mind around the logistics of sewing the hem on the outside of the garment), and turned out fantastic. I’ve gotten a LOT of compliments already!

Love my vest!

Love the way this turned out. Very glad I practiced first with less "precious" fabric as I really misunderstood the part where you're supposed to turn it all right side out before continuing. Oops- I've amended the pattern instructions with a big bold note to myself. Otherwise- this worked great and looks good and I'm sure I'll make another as well! I went with a deep blue on blue plaid with a hot pink lining and it is a great combo. I used the same plaid I'd just made a pair of pants out of- will I wear them together? probably. I"m still what I'd call an intermediate to advanced beginner- so this is a whole new world! Sewing clothing, that is. I'm loving it.

Two so far ...

I really love this pattern - it's a pleasure to sew and it turns out that waistcoats go with so many things and cover my 62-year-old midriff very comfortably :)
So far I've made two from offcuts of fairly thick upholstery wool felt bought from a social enterprise on eBay. For the purple one I didn't have quite enough fabric so made the facings of thinner stripey cotton and, though it's a bit less warm, it sits slightly closer to the body and feels less stiff. I already have plans to make another one for the spring out of thinner wool suiting in various blues and my husband is hinting strongly that he would like one too, so it looks like I'll be getting the Pike pattern as well in the near future!
